3 Reasons Why I Launched Diverse City Labs

Today is an exciting (and somewhat scary) day!

For the first time, I’m publicly sharing the launch of my company, Diverse City Labs.

Even though this blog post is a big first step, Diverse City Labs has been in existence for a bit longer than just one day.

This company has been a labor of love for the last 2 years, emerging as a way for me to connect with people like you through my love of teaching, consulting and tackling the most daunting diversity and inclusion challenges.

Have you ever wanted to pursue your passion through your own creative business? Is fear or uncertainty preventing you from taking that first step?

I’m right there with you (literally). And I’m here to tell you that like me, you can do it too. In this post, I’m sharing 3 reasons why I launched Diverse City Labs.

1.  Cultivating my passion

People often wonder how a “numbers girl” like me has ended up working in the diversity and inclusion space.  And at first glance, math and diversity work don’t seem to be a natural fit.

However, as I’ve mapped out my own professional journey, the biggest lesson I’ve learned about success is in using your unique skills and passions to advance your personal and professional goals.

In many situations, I’ve had a big advantage because of my analytical way of thinking and my ability to translate data into stories that capture the real impact of my work.

As an educator at heart, I’ll use Diverse City Labs to share the tricks of the trade that I’ve learned along the way.

2.  Being creative

By nature, I thrive on creativity. I love the idea of building something from the ground up, working through all the messy parts to get to the finished product.

I’m sure there will be many messy parts along the way in this new endeavor.

But, I’m excited about the potential for creating new content – blog posts, webinars, podcasts and courses.

I’m excited about the potential for designing new tools to help capture your data story (like surveys, interviews and focus groups).

And perhaps most of all, I’m excited about the potential for connecting one-on-one with people like you who are passionate about telling their personal and professional stories.

3.  Building community

To overcome most challenges I’ve faced in life, I’ve leveraged my community for advice, encouragement and support.

Nothing is more effective at cultivating success than a supportive community.

That’s why I’m using Diverse City Labs to build a community around data storytelling.

I’m hoping to break down the barrier between “data skeptics” and “data enthusiasts.”

And with this new approach, I’m striving to alleviate some of the fear that many people have about data and numbers.

After all, it’s such a powerful way to tell your personal story.

As you can see, I have some big goals for Diverse City Labs. But, I’m excited to see where this journey will take us.

Do you have a passion project? Have you ever considered launching your own creative business?
