Hi, we're John and Taniecea Mallery.

We help emerging leaders amplify their impact by quantifying their diversity and inclusion work.

From the time we were very young, we both knew we were different.

I’m Taniecea, and I grew up in a small town outside Lafayette, Louisiana. John is my partner, and we met in 5th grade.

From the time I was young, I knew that I was a "numbers girl."

I can remember running home from school as a precocious 2nd grader, excited to tell anyone who would listen about the new math skills I had acquired that day.

As I got older, the love of numbers stuck with me. So, it came as no surprise when I earned a Bachelor’s degree in Math from Loyola University New Orleans in 2005.

Every time someone asked me what I would do with a degree in Math, my response was an emphatic *shoulder shrug*.

All I knew was that doing math was like breathing to me.

Eventually, I went on to earn a Ph.D. in Applied and Computational Math from Princeton University in 2012.

Throughout my educational experiences, one thing was clear -- I was often the “only one” -- the only woman, the only Black woman, the only first-generation college student in my math classes...

...and John had a similar experience.

He’ll tell you that he’s been a science nerd for as long as he can remember. He’s always had a unique way of viewing the world. Together with his passion for caring for people, his love of science led him down the path toward a career in health care.

John earned a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Grambling State University in 2006. Eventually, he went on to earn a Master’s degree in Nurse Anesthesia from LaRoche College in 2012 and a Doctorate of Nursing Practice from Southeastern Louisiana University in 2018.

And as an advanced practice nurse, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and a health practitioner with a doctoral degree, his perspective is unique among his colleagues.

Somehow, our career paths have converged as we both found our way into diversity and inclusion. John’s work involves implementing clinical interventions to enhance healthcare providers’ cultural competency, and I focus on higher education by leading diversity and inclusion at the local University.

Our careers have taken us to facilities throughout the country, but we are fortunate to have returned home to serve the community that made us who we are today. Ultimately, we knew that our life's calling meant pursuing careers giving back after so much had been given to us.

Throughout every stage of our careers, we’ve had to rely on the support and resources of diversity champions, community advocates, mentors and sponsors.

BUT, most people would be surprised to learn what we consider to be the key to our success.

I've used my unique perspective as a "numbers girl" to my advantage, taking every opportunity to share my passions and tell my story using data. And John has used his compassion and magnetic personality to defy stereotypes and thrive in a high pressure environment.

Many people recognize the importance of diversity and inclusion, but they aren’t sure how to measure their progress in a complex world. Others are looking for strategic and innovative ways to impact their organizational climate and culture.

That's why we’re here -- to help break down the barrier between "data skeptic" and "data enthusiast."
